Open Meeting This Week & Elections Next Week

Besides playing German and American board games this week, we will be holding an open meeting so that anybody can get a sense for how we run things. Very soon we will be passing the torch to a bright new future of Parsons game folks, so we invite anybody interested in being involved with the New School Game Club to come and see what it’s all about. Ask questions and learn how you can get involved. This is also when we will be accepting nominations (and you are always free to nominate yourself!) before we hold elections next week. While we hope hat you can be there in person, nominations as well as any questions you may have can be sent to games@newschool.edu
Robert Yang Needs Orgasm Sounds

On an entirely different note, MFA candidate, fellow game designer, and friend of the club Robert Yang needs your fake orgasm sounds for his game CondomCorps XL. Info and a link for submissions can be found here: http://www.blog.radiator.debacle.us/2012/02/condomcorps-xl-is-crowd-sourcing-fake.html

Tomorrow: German Vs. American Boardgames & Open Meeting
Fri 2/10 @ 7PM
6 E16th, 12th Floor Lab

Two countries, two different board game aesthetics, but which is better? Maybe we don’t have to chose. Join us as we play some of the best boardgames from both countries next Friday, including Settler of Cattan, Dominion, Puerto Rico, Small World, and many more. And as always, feel free to bring your own.
We will be having an open meeting beforehand.
Next Week: Narrative Games & Elections
Fri 2/10 @ 7PM
6 E16th, 12th Floor Lab

Join us as we explore games focussing on story telling and how narrative can be created in a game system. Weave new tales with games like Once Upon A Time or relive classics like Arabian Nights and Lord of The Rings. And before the games start, we will be holding ELECTIONS!

NYU Game Center Lecture Series: Ivory Tower Defense
Thu 2/23 @ 7PM
721 Broadway, Lower Level Room 006

Do games belong in the university? Do you need a degree to make games? What can we get out of studying them? What is the connection between research and design? Join us for a spirited conversation with the faculty of the NYU Game Center to discuss the complex relationship between games and higher education. Frank Lantz will moderate Katherine Isbister, Jesper Juul, and Eric Zimmerman as they debate these important issues and discuss the work they are doing to create a shared vision for the study of games at the NYU Game Center.
